From Clinical Reality to European Health Data Innovation: The first clinical use case developed in ICUdata4EU focuses on Acute Kidney Injury
Updated: Oct 2

As part of our Work Package in the ICUdata4EU project 'Needs Assessment and Requirements Gathering' we developed our first clinical use case on Acute Kidney Injury. The AKI Use Case is helping shape and test the federated European ICU data infrastructure around a real and highly relevant clinical challenge.
✅ We will test whether patient data can be identified, harmonised and analysed reliably across hospitals and European countries.
✅ At the same time, this step creates the foundation for future use cases and research across Europe.
✅ The AKI Use Case is more than a clinical scenario. It is a step towards the European Health Data Space (EHDS), enabling hospitals to build expertise today and help shape tomorrow's data-driven healthcare ecosystem.
Why is the EHDS important?
The EHDS is creating a common framework for the secure, interoperable and trusted use of health data across Europe. As the European healthcare landscape evolves, hospitals will increasingly engage with EHDS-related standards, governance frameworks and data-sharing infrastructures.
